Bonna’s R&D Project Focused on Sustainable Porcelain Production Qualifies for TÜBİTAK Funding

Bonna has qualified for funding under the TÜBİTAK 1832 Green Transformation in Industry 2025-3 Call with its project titled “Production Technology for Next-Generation Tableware with a High Waste Content and Low-Temperature Sintering,” developed under the leadership of the Bonna Sustainability Committee. The project aims to reintegrate porcelain waste into production and develop next-generation porcelain manufacturing technologies that enhance energy efficiency.

Since 2014, Bonna has been a trusted partner to the hotel, restaurant and catering (HoReCa) industry, providing innovative tabletop solutions. The brand continues to advance its sustainable production approach through R&D and innovation. As part of the TÜBİTAK-supported project led by the Bonna Sustainability Committee, innovative technologies will be developed to reintegrate both porcelain waste generated during production processes and end-of-life porcelain products into manufacturing.

Technology That Reintegrates Porcelain Waste into Production and Enhances Energy Efficiency

Bonna’s project places green transformation and resource efficiency at the heart of porcelain manufacturing technology. The project aims to develop next-generation porcelain products containing a high proportion of recycled waste while enabling energy-efficient production through optimized firing temperatures and durations.

In this respect, the project holds significant potential to reduce the use of natural resources and raw materials, improve energy efficiency and lower the carbon footprint of production processes. It also aims to create economic value by reusing porcelain waste generated during manufacturing and to integrate circular economy principles more firmly into production processes.

Bonna Advances Sustainable Porcelain Production Through R&D and Innovation

Bonna’s approach to sustainability is not limited to a single project; it is built on a long-term transformation vision encompassing its entire production ecosystem. The company addresses the efficient use of resources, waste reduction and the mitigation of the environmental impact of its manufacturing processes through an integrated approach to R&D and innovation.

The project that has qualified for TÜBİTAK funding represents an important step in this journey. Through the next-generation manufacturing technologies it will develop, Bonna aims to pave the way for production models that use fewer raw materials and natural resources, consume less energy and have a lower environmental impact. In this regard, the project stands out as a major initiative that translates Bonna’s circular economy, resource and energy efficiency, and low-carbon production goals into tangible outcomes through its R&D and innovation capabilities.

Bonna General Manager Erbil Aşkan: “We Are Advancing Sustainable Production Through Our R&D and Innovation Capabilities”

Bonna General Manager Erbil Aşkan stated that the project’s qualification for TÜBİTAK funding is a significant reflection of the company’s sustainability vision:

“We regard sustainability not only as an environmental responsibility but also as a fundamental element of our business model for the future. Developed under the leadership of the Bonna Sustainability Committee and qualified for funding under the TÜBİTAK 1832 Green Transformation in Industry Programme, our project is an important demonstration of our ambition to transform this approach into a tangible manufacturing technology through our R&D and innovation capabilities.

“By reintegrating both the waste generated during porcelain production and end-of-life porcelain products into the manufacturing cycle, we aim to reduce the use of natural resources and raw materials, improve our energy efficiency and lower our carbon footprint.

“Developing next-generation porcelain technologies that contain a high proportion of recycled waste and enable energy-efficient production through optimized firing temperatures and durations is an important step—not only in transforming our own manufacturing processes, but also in helping more sustainable production models become widespread across our industry.

“At Bonna, we combine our R&D expertise with our sustainability goals, focusing on developing manufacturing technologies that use resources more efficiently, support the circular economy and reduce environmental impact. In line with our ‘Let It Last for Tomorrow’ philosophy, we will continue working toward a more sustainable future through every step we take, from production to social impact.”
